Scotland Landlord Register Goes Live

By 2 min read • February 22, 2017

accredited redA new landlord register has gone live in Scotland. The online digital register can be accessed by landlords, tenants, and local authorities. It’s designed to make it easier for landlords to apply for or renew a landlord registration, tenants to search for landlords, and local authorities to maintain their sections of the register. The new landlord register can be accessed via a smartphone, computer or tablet.

New System Built on Digital Technology

An online landlord register was first developed in 2006, but the new system has been built on new technology, so it should be safer and much easier to use. It’s also more accessible for the people who need to use the system, which is very important now that the majority of people now access online content via a mobile device.

In particular, local authority staff will need to spend less time administering the register, so they will have more time to target rogue landlords who have not registered or don’t comply with landlord legislation.

A Successful Collaboration

Housing minister, Kevin Stewart, is very pleased with the new system.

“I am delighted by the collaboration between Registers of Scotland, the Scottish Government and local authorities on this project, and am grateful for the hard work of those who worked on it, including the many local authority landlord registration officers who helped to test it before it went live today.”

The new register is part of a bigger plan put in place by the Scottish Government to raise PRS standards.
