Landlord in Shock on BBC1

By 2 min read • July 12, 2017

The latest episode of ‘The Week The Landlords Moved In’ proved to be a revelation for a sports car driving landlord and his father. Peter and his dad, Marc, moved into pensioner Linda’s flat for the week. They were horrified to learn they would have to survive on £54.

As Peter says, “That for me would normally be a round of drinks one evening.” He can’t quite believe Linda makes ends meet on such a small amount of money.

“To live off £54 – yes you can go to somewhere like Lidl but if anything goes wrong, then you have no other money left. That was stark.”

Sleeping in a Freezer

The two landlords also found it hard sleeping in Linda’s freezing cold, unheated bedroom. They ended up pulling on thermal underwear just to keep the chill off.

By the end of the episode, Peter admits the experience has made him reassess his life. He tells the camera that he had no idea what life was like living on the poverty line. For him, a rent increase is an easy way to boost his profits, but for a tenant like Linda, it has a serious impact on her life.

Landlord Vows to Change his Ways

The landlord, who rents out 40 flats in London, vows to change his ways. He described his experience on the program as “humbling” and promises to treat his tenants differently.
