No landlord wants to have to evict a tenant as it is a time consuming and costly process, but if a tenant is refusing to pay the rent, you can only let things slide for so long. The cost of evicting tenants is set to rise rather steeply as of April 22.

Court Fees Rise Steeply
Court fees are set to increase by 60% and the fee you will have to pay for serving a Section 8 notice and accelerated Section 21 notice is going up from £175 to £280. The Ministry of Justice says that the increase in fees is a reflection of the cost of work courts have to do to process eviction notices. They insist that all fees charged are reasonable, although landlords may disagree. The only fee that isn’t being increased is the application for a warrant of possession requiring a bailiff—this will remain at £100.
