There are only two days before polling day, so if you haven’t already decided which of the parties is getting your vote, the National Landlords Association has decided to make it a bit easier for the ‘floating voters’ by compiling a helpful table of where each party stands on key landlord related policies.

Rent Control
The Tories are against implementing rent controls in the private rental sector, but Labour and the Greens are firmly in favour and the Lib Dems have said they are ‘in favour’ of rent control.
Longer Tenancies
Again, the Tories are against legislating in favour of longer tenancies whereas Labour and the Greens are for it. The Lib Dems are against legislation, but want to encourage longer tenancies if possible.
Landlords’ Register
The Tories don’t want to implement a National Register for Landlords, but Labour and the Greens do. The Lib Dems are in favour of the idea, but they think it should be voluntary as opposed to compulsory.
Landlord Licensing
The Tories are against landlord licensing but the Greens are in favour of the idea. Labour and the Lib Dems are also against landlord licensing, but they have stressed that they think it is up to local authorities to decide.
Letting Agent Fees
The Tories don’t want to ban letting agent fees because they say recent legislation now makes them more transparent. Labour and the Greens do want to ban letting agent fees, as do the Lib Dems if the current legislation hasn’t worked by 2016.
Landlord Tax
The Tories and Lib Dems are against the abolition of landlord tax breaks whereas Labour and the Greens are for it.
